Fayetteville, N.C. – For the second time in as many weeks, Cumberland County Schools (CCS) has another Sandhills Regional winner!Portrait of lady smiling with a dark-colored background

This afternoon, thought she was attending a weekly virtual principals’ meeting to hear helpful information about school operations. What she heard instead was Kisha Clemons, the 2020 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year, announce her as the 2021 Wells Fargo Sandhills Regional Principal of the Year.

“Ms. Owen inspires others to believe that together we are better and that anything is possible,” said Clemons. “She uses her ‘superpower leadership practices’ to promote the success of all students. You [Cumberland County Schools] have a superhero today that believes that (1) principals are strong advocates for teachers, school staff, and students; (2) building positive relationships are the only way to move from a negative culture to a thriving family-oriented, professional organization; and (3) focusing on a person’s strengths yields a much higher reward.”

The Cliffdale Elementary School leader will move forward to compete against seven other regional finalists from across North Carolina. The next round of competition will be held on March 12 at the Umstead Hotel in Cary.

The 2021 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year will be announced on May 21 at a special ceremony at the Umstead.
